About

Dr. Chloe Carmichael, PhD is the founder of this website. Chloe founded BeginYoga.com because she felt there was a need for a website to outline the different styles of yoga in an unbiased and succinct manner, and empower people to choose the approach that best suits their needs.

Chloe has practiced yoga for fifteen years, and has been a certified yoga teacher for nine years.  She is a longstanding member of the Yoga Alliance, and was certified by The Yoga Institute in 2001.

In addition to formal teacher training, Chloe has completed additional teacher trainings in Yogilates and yoga for children.  Chloe has also completed college coursework in yoga and Buddhism, as well as the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course as standardized by Jon Kabat-Zinn.  Chloe attended numerous yoga and meditation retreats in the United States and Mexico hosted by Kripalu, The Chicago Yoga Center, and Three Yogis and Grain of Sand.  Chloe has visited numerous studios (such as Yoga Works, Jivamukti, Kundalini Yoga East, Bikram Yoga NYC, and Yoga Sutra) and taken one-to-one sessions with private teachers as part of her study and exploration of yoga.  Although the majority of her students have been taught individually, Chloe has also assisted or taught group yoga classes at Equinox Fitness, Gouverneur Hospital, and Chelsea Piers.

Chloe is not currently teaching yoga.  She is currently a member of both the clinical and consulting teams at Corporate Counseling Associates in Manhattan, where she works with clients from companies such as the New York Times, the United Bank of Scotland, and Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz.  She also teaches psychology at the City University of New York.  She has also taught at Long Island University in New York, and has assisted at Columbia University.

Chloe is open to consultation and workshop requests concerning yoga, meditation, emotional issues, and their overlap.

Chloe graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Columbia University with departmental honors in Psychology.  She holds a PhD in clinical psychology from Long Island University.
